Carmen María's English Blog

It´s really  important to spend our time on useful things. Josh Coombes is a 29-year-old hairdresser who works in the streets of London, giving free haircuts to homeless people and encouraging people to help others, any way they can.
"If everyone, in every city, did one thing for nothing, we could change the world."

ON THE FENCE : unsure about the decision at hand. Undecided about something.

"Mary is on the fence about going to London"
"John is on the fence about dating Sarah or Kate"
This song is part of my life and best moments. It still moves me deeply.

If you want to be successful, prepare to be doubted and tested.
A true story, Panyee Football Club.

Meaning:  avoiding the main topic. Not speaking directly about the issue.

  Awesome, as usual...

     Up&Up

fixing up a car to drive in it again
searching for the water hoping for the rain
up and up, up and up
down upon the canvas, working meal to meal
waiting for a chance to pick your orange field
up and up, up and up
see a pearl form, a diamond in the rough
see a bird soaring high above the flood
it’s in your blood, it’s in your blood
underneath the storm an umbrella is saying
sitting with the poison takes away the pain
up and up, up and up it’s saying
we’re going to get it get it together right now
going to get it get it together somehow
going to get it get it together and flower
oh oh oh oh oh oh
we’re going to get it get it together I know
going to get it get it together and flow
going to get it get it together and go
up and up and up

Happy 4th of July to all American people!! A day off to enjoy fireworks and hang out with your friends and families!!

Happy birthday, America!!!

Meaning:  Stop talking or making noise. Be quiet.

"if you don't pipe down, we're turning this car around and going straight home!"

Origin:

On sailing ships signals were given to the crew by sounding the boatswain's pipe, a small whistle-like device. When the bosun "piped down" aboard ship, he blew the signal for the crew to retire from their tasks or formation and return belowdecks.
