I like this song by Cold Play very much, although it´s too similar to RITMO DE LA NOCHE, by Mystic. The band has even been slammed as being "copycat". However Coldplay frontman Chris Martin collaborated with I Go To Rio tunesmiths Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson - whose original song was sampled on the dance track. The duo even have a writing credit on the new song and Coldplay admitted on their website:

"Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall contains elements of I Go To Rio written by Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson."

I TURN THE MUSIC UP, I GOT MY RECORDS ON
I SHUT THE WORLD OUTSIDE UNTIL THE LIGHTS COME ON
MAYBE THE STREETS ALIGHT, MAYBE THE TREES ARE GONE
I FEEL MY HEART START BEATING TO MY FAVOURITE SONG

AND ALL THE KIDS THEY DANCE, ALL THE KIDS ALL NIGHT
UNTIL MONDAY MORNING FEELS ANOTHER LIFE
I TURN THE MUSIC UP
I’M ON A ROLL THIS TIME
AND HEAVEN IS IN SIGHT

I TURN THE MUSIC UP, I GOT MY RECORDS ON
FROM UNDERNEATH THE RUBBLE SING A REBEL SONG
DON’T WANT TO SEE ANOTHER GENERATION DROP
I’D RATHER BE A COMMA THAN A FULL STOP

MAYBE I’M IN THE BLACK, MAYBE I’M ON MY KNEES
MAYBE I’M IN THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO TRAPEZES
BUT MY HEART IS BEATING AND MY PULSES START
CATHEDRALS IN MY HEART

AND WE SAW OH THIS LIGHT I SWEAR YOU, EMERGE BLINKING INTO
TO TELL ME IT’S ALRIGHT
AS WE SOAR WALLS, EVERY SIREN IS A SYMPHONY

AND EVERY TEAR’S A WATERFALL
IS A WATERFALL, OH!
IS A WATERFALL, OH! OH! OH!
IS A WATERFALL
EVERY TEAR IS A WATERFALL
OH OH OH!

SO YOU CAN HURT, HURT ME BAD
BUT STILL I’LL RAISE THE FLAG

OH, IT WAS A WA-WA-WA-WA-WA-ATERFALL
A WA-WA-WA-WA-WA-ATERFALL

EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEARDROP IS A WATERFALL

EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEARDROP IS A WATERFALL

SUBO LA MÚSICA, HAGO SONAR MIS CDS
ENCIERRO AL MUNDO HASTA QUE LAS LUCES VENGAN
QUIZÁ LAS CALLES SE ENCIENDAN, QUIZÁ LOS ÁRBOLES SE HAYAN IDO
MI CORAZÓN EMPIEZA A LATIR AL SON DE MI CANCIÓN FAVORITA

Y TODOS LOS NIÑOS BAILAN, BAILAN TODA LA NOCHE
HASTA LA MAÑANA DEL LUNES SIENTE OTRA VIDA
SUBO LA MÚSICA
ESTOY EN UNA RACHA ESTA VEZ
Y EL CIELO ESTÁ A LA VISTA

SUBO LA MÚSICA, HAGO SONAR MIS CDS
POR DEBAJO DE LOS ESCOMBROS CANTO UNA CANCIÓN REBELDE
NO QUIERO VER CAER A OTRA GENERACIÓN MÁS
PREFERIRÍA SER UNA COMA QUE UN PUNTO FINAL

QUIZÁ ESTÉ DE LUTO, QUIZÁ ESTÉ ARRODILLADO
QUIZÁ ESTÉ EN LA BRECHA ENTRE DOS TRAPECIOS
PERO MI CORAZÓN ESTÁ LATIENDO Y MIS PULSOS COBRAN VIDA
CATEDRALES EN MI CORAZÓN

Y TE JURO QUE VIMOS ESTA LUZ

Prince William, son of the Prince of Wales and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II married Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey yesterday,  April 29th.,

This is what Guardian.co.uk says about the event:

"Miss Catherine Middleton of Bucklebury, Berkshire went into Westminster Abbey at 11am and came out an hour and a quarter later, holding the hand of the second in line to the throne as Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge – she will not be known as Princess Catherine. At the moment of their wedding, the Queen bestowed a title on her husband, Prince William of Wales. In fact, there were three titles so that none of her realms felt left out: he also became Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.

Yet, for all the pomp and circumstance surrounding them, the couple found space to share knowing looks and smiles, suggesting that the natural instincts and affections which Dr John Hall, the abbey's dean, told them at the start of the service had been implanted by God, were already in place. There were giggles between them as he struggled to wriggle the Welsh gold ring on to her finger.

Later, appearing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to give each other the obligatory kiss to satisfy the watching crowd and the massed ranks of the world's cameras, they gave each other the most perfunctory and chaste of pecks, as if slightly dismissive of the public nature of the rit"

Two friends go to a cinema. They walk to the booth and order a ticket each.

The ticket prices are $8 (admission with popcorn), and $5 (admission only).

The first friend gives the cashier a $10 note and is asked to choose between the two types of tickets, which he replies, "$8".

However, the second friend pays $10 and the cashier, without hesitation,  gives him a $8 ticket.

Why doesn´t he ask which ticket he prefers?

Really fast, M.M. You´re right. The second boy gave the cashier two $5 notes. ;)

The Flag of the Isle on Man (in the Irish sea,  between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland)

On February 9th, 1961, The Beatles made their debut at The Cavern, the popular basement club in Liverpool, their hometown. This successful group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) and worked in many genres ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock.

The Beatles' influence on music was revolutionary and immense. The Beatles' musical innovations, as well as their commercial success, inspired and inspire, even now, musicians worldwide.

....

The song "Yesterday" was considered the best song of the 20th century...

Have you ever tried to illustrate a song? It´d be interesting and funny at the same time. Take on this challenge and make a doodle video. I´ve found this example on a website (EFL Classroom 2.0) and the instructions to create your own:

1. Choose a song (not a very fast song, better with repetitions)

2. Write the lyrics

3. Get drawing. Match the drawings with the lyric line. If you don´t like drawing,  you can also use landscapes, famous pictures, photographs etc

4- After you have all the pictures finished in order. take out your camera and take a photo of each.

5. Now you have the photos - upload them to your computer. Now, it is time to make the video.

6. Open up Windows Movie Maker. Click START and then select this little icon. If you have   Windows 7, WMM won't automatically be on your computer - you'll have to download and install it yourself. Go HERE.

 7. Now you will have to put the photos into WMM, add the mp3 file of the song and then "sync" or "time" them both together. Finally, "Produce" as a movie. Produce as an mp4 or Avi, these are the better quality and most sharable formats.

A lively song for today...

A good friend of mine, told me that perhaps you´d like this film: The Breakfast Club.  The plot is about five students at a high School in USA who spend a Saturday in detention together in the library, where they are ordered not to speak or move from their seats by the Principal. They have to remain there for eight hours and fifty-four minutes and write an essay about who he or she thinks they are. Gradually they  will open up to each other and  realize that they are all deeper than their respective stereotypes.
Interesting, isn´t  it? Pay attention to the background music, by Simple Minds ;)

Don't You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

Hey, hey, hey ,hey
Ohhh...
Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me
Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down
Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ohhhh.....
Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security
Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you all my name?
I say :
La la la...
Ingredients:

•4 large, fresh eggs, measured in a jug
•Equal quantity of milk to eggs
•Equal quantity of all purpose/plain flour to eggs
•Pinch of salt
•2 tbsp lard, beef dripping or vegetable oil

Preparation:

•Heat the oven to the highest temperature possible, however, do not exceed 450F/230C or the fat may burn.
•Pour the eggs and milk into a large mixing bowl and add the pinch of salt. Whisk thoroughly with an electric hand beater or hand whisk. Leave to stand for 10 minutes.
•Gradually sieve the same volume of flour (as the eggs) into the milk and egg mixture, again using an electric hand beater or hand-whisk to create a lump free batter resembling thick cream, if there are any lumps pass the batter through a fine sieve.
•Leave the batter to rest in the kitchen for a minimum of 30 minutes, longer if possible - up to several hours.

SHE CALLS OUT TO THE MAN ON THE STREET
"SIR, CAN YOU HELP ME?
IT´S COLD AND I´VE NOWHERE TO SLEEP,
IS THERE SOMEWHERE YOU CAN TELL ME?"

HE WALKS ON, DOESN´T LOOK BACK
HE PRETENDS HE CAN´T HEAR HER
STARTS TO WHISTLE AS HE CROSSES THE STREET
SEEMS EMBARRASSED TO BE THERE

OH THINK TWICE, IT´S ANOTHER DAY FOR
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE
OH THINK TWICE, IT´S JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR YOU,
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE

SHE CALLS OUT TO THE MAN ON THE STREET
HE CAN SEE SHE´S BEEN CRYING
SHE´S GOT BLISTERS ON THE SOLES OF HER FEET
CAN´T WALK BUT SHE´S TRYING

OH THINK TWICE, IT´S ANOTHER DAY FOR
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE
OH THINK TWICE, IT´S JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR YOU,
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE

OH LORD, IS THERE NOTHING MORE ANYBODY CAN DO
OH LORD, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING YOU CAN SAY

YOU CAN TELL FROM THE LINES ON HER FACE
YOU CAN SEE THAT SHE´S BEEN THERE
PROBABLY BEEN MOVED ON FROM EVERY PLACE
´COS SHE DIDN´T FIT IN THERE

OH THINK TWICE, IT´S ANOTHER DAY FOR
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE
OH THINK TWICE, IT´S JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR YOU,
YOU AND ME IN PARADISE

ELLA LLAMA AL HOMBRE EN LA CALLE
´SEÑOR, ¿PUEDE AYUDARME?
HACE FRÍO Y NO TENGO LUGAR DONDE DORMIR
¿PUEDE RECOMENDARME ALGÚN LUGAR?´

ÉL SIGUE CAMINANDO, NO MIRA ATRÁS
SIMULA NO PODER OÍRLA
COMIENZA A SILBAR MIENTRAS CRUZA LA CALLE
PARECE AVERGONZARSE DE ESTAR ALLÍ

PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA
TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO
PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA TI,
PARA TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO

ELLA LLAMA AL HOMBRE EN LA CALLE
ÉL PUEDE VER QUE ELLA HA ESTADO LLORANDO
ELLA TIENE AMPOLLAS EN LAS PLANTAS DE SUS PIES
NO PUEDE CAMINAR PERO LO ESTÁ INTENTANDO

PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA
TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO
OH, PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA TI,
PARA TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO

OH SEÑOR, ¿NO HAY NADA MÁS QUE ALGUIEN PUEDA HACER?
OH SEÑOR, DEBE HABER ALGO QUE PUEDAS DECIR

PUEDES DECIRLO POR LOS RASGOS DE SU CARA
PUEDES VER QUE ELLA ESTUVO ALLÍ
PROBABLEMENTE HA SIDO ECHADA DE TODOS LADOS
PORQUE ELLA NO ENCAJABA ALLÍ

OH, PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA
TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO
OH, PIÉNSALO DOS VECES, ES OTRO DÍA PARA TI,
PARA TI Y PARA MI EN EL PARAÍSO

Cuz I'm the only one who understands, like I'm the only one who knows your heart, only one...

Take me for a ride
Oh baby, take me high
Let me make you first
Oh make it last all night
Take me for a ride
Oh baby, take me high
Let me make you first
Make it last all night

[CHORUS]
Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world
Like I'm the only one that you'll ever love
Like I'm the only one who knows your heart
Only girl in the world...
Like I'm the only one that's in command
Cuz I'm the only one who understands how to make you feel like a man
Only girl in the world...
Girl in the world...
Only girl in the world...
Girl in the world...

All Saints Day in Spain (Todos Los Santos) takes place on November 1st. It is a national public holiday when people honor the saints and remember all the dead. Spanih people visit the local cemeteries and lay flowers on the graves of their deceased relatives.

As well as the religious side, we cannot forget the typical sweets of these days: people eat "huesos de santo’ (saint’s bones), which are made of marzipan dough rolled into thick thumb-size tubes and filled with sweet egg yolk.

One of the All Saints’ traditions across Spain is the performing of the play Don Juan Tenorio, written by José Zorrilla. It is a story of Don Juan's choice between salvation and damnation. The third act of the play is set in a cemetery where Don Juan expresses his regrets and begs forgiveness at the tomb of his fiancee, Doña Ines, for abandoning her.

David Guetta was born and raised in Paris into a Moroccan family. His father was a restaurateur. In the early 1980s, at the age of 13, Guetta began mixing his first vinyls at home and then at 14, he started organising parties in his basement.

David Guetta's career started at the age of 17, when he began playing hip-hop and house music in the nightclubs of Paris. Originally influenced by the hip-hop DJs he heard on France's Radio 7 station, he began DJing at Broad, a club in Paris. From 1988 to 1990, Guetta was a DJ playing house music on Paris's Radio Nova. In 1990, he released "Nation Rap", a hip-hop collaboration with French rapper Sidney Duteil.

Nowadays Guetta is one of the best and most famous DJs in the world and everybody likes and dances his music. Many famous singers collaborate with him and their songs have become popular all around the world.

Good Luck!!
This post is especially dedicated to Eduardo. Thanks for the bookmarks  you´ve sent me (one of them has inspired me to write about Henry VIII)...and thanks, again, for being my friend.

HENRY VIII
"Divorced, beheaded, died; Divorced, beheaded, survived."

Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) was king of England from 21 April 1509 until his death. Henry was the second monarch of the House of Tudor, succeeding his father, Henry VII.  He married six times and there is a popular rhyme which describes his wives´s fate.

                              "Divorced, beheaded, died;
                            Divorced, beheaded ,survived"

Catherine of Aragon, a Spanish princess, was Henry's first wife. They were married  for many years. Her determination to stay married to Henry, in the face of his desire for Anne Boleyn, would change the course of history forever.

Anne Boleyn, Henry's second wife, and the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Henry fell passionately in love with Anne while married to Catherine of Aragon. He waited several years to marry Anne, but he soon  lost his desire for her once she became his Queen.

Jane Seymour, Henry's beloved third Queen. Gentle, capable Jane gave Henry his long-awaited male heir after one year of marriage. Sadly, she gave her life to do so.

Anne of Cleves, Henry's fourth wife. This German princess served as Queen for only a few months before she and Henry agreed to divorce by mutual consent.

Katherine Howard, Henry's fifth wife. Henry's marriage to this teenager brought him brief happiness, but ended in tragedy.

Katherine Parr, Henry's sixth Queen. This intelligent, loyal, forward-thinking Renaissance woman outlived three husbands, including Henry, and went on to finally marry the man of her choice.

Today is intended to be a special day for the appreciation of teachers. One must not forget and should always appreciate the efforts which a teacher puts in giving a direction to his/her students´ lives.

How To Appreciate Your Teachers...

  • Write a poem, letter, or note of appreciation and leave it on his/her desk.
  • Write him/her an e-mail and thank him/her
  • Print your teacher's name a on coffee mug as a present to commemorate his/her effort.

Quotes:

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. ~William Arthur Ward

"I hear, and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand." - Chinese Proverb

"The job of an educator is to teach students to see the vitality in themselves." - Joseph Campbell

We all feel bad sometimes. If so, here you have part of a beautiful prayer by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. We should always look back before complaining.

Lord,

When I am hungry, send me someone to feed;
When I am thirsty, send me someone who needs a drink;
When I am cold, send me someone to warm;
When I am sad, send me someone to cheer;
When I need understanding, send me someone who needs mine;
When I need to be looked after, send me someone to care for;
When I think only of myself, draw my thoughts to another.
So let us pray as though everything depends on God,
and work as though God depends on us for everything.
